Retaining compounds are best suited for components that are intended to be more permanently adjoined. Some applications require frequent disassembly and so they may not be compatible with them.
When securing components, it is best to use retaining compounds in addition to mechanical retention methods, such as snap rings, machine shoulders and retaining nuts. For example, it is not advisable to rely solely on a retaining compound to secure a bearing on a shaft. Always make sure to securely fasten your components even when using bearing retaining compounds!
